First-of-its-kind commercial-hydrogen value chain that contributes towards Singapore’s climate action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy consumption efficiency

Rajah & Tann Singapore has been appointed by the Mitsubishi Group to advise their implementation of a commercial-scale hydrogen value chain to supply hydrogen to Singapore to be used mainly by local generation companies for power generation.  The legal, commercial and technical feasibility study involves several jurisdictions and we are advising on all Singapore law-related aspects of the project.

Some aspects of our legal support include advising on the regulatory framework with respect to the (i) import and in-land transportation of methylcyclohexane and toluene; (ii) hydrogen storage, distribution and use in electricity production; (iii) Singapore’s carbon taxing regime; and (iv) the proposed implementation of the forward capacity market.

This is an exciting project that is the in line with the Paris Agreement.

In tandem with this scope, we are also advising the Mitsubishi Group on its research collaboration projects with both academic research institutions, as well as industry players in the LNG sector, to conduct research and feasibility studies on a demonstration facility to be constructed by Chiyoda and operated by the PSA Corporation. These projects are partially funded by grants from the National Research Foundation and the Japanese Ministry.
