Hoyoverse, a global interactive entertainment brand on various legal issues relating to e-sports and Metaverse

Rajah & Tann Singapore advised Hoyoverse, a global interactive entertainment brand owned by game developer miHoYo, on various legal issues relating to e-sports and metaverse, including internet content regulation, gaming, personal data protection and consumer protection laws.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by miHoYo and published by miHoYo in mainland China and by HoYoverse worldwide. Across all platforms (including mobile, console and computer platforms), the game is estimated to have grossed nearly $3.7 billion in its first year by September 2021, the highest ever first-year launch revenue for any video game. The mobile version grossed a further $567 million between January and March 2022, adding up to more than $4.267 billion grossed as of March 2022.

The headquarters of HoYoverse was recently opened in Singapore, marking a strategic move in HoYoverse’s global expansion. Going forward, the Singapore office will serve as a key hub for the company’s global distribution and operation efforts, working closely with other offices and providing technical support for game development.

The matter is led by Partner Benjamin Cheong.
