Singapore Chess Federation ex-treasurer awarded S$120,000 in seven-year long defamation suit

Rajah & Tann Singapore successfully represented Mr Jasmin Nisban, former honorary treasurer of national sports association the Singapore Chess Federation in a defamation suit, winning against 21 members of the organisation who had falsely accused him of sexual misconduct towards a female chess trainer.

Capping a seven-year legal tussle which arose out of the organisation’s executive council elections in August 2015, the 22-day trial ended with Mr Nisban being awarded S$120,000 in damages, with costs to be assessed at a later date.

In an article with The Straits Times, Mr Nisban said he was glad that the saga has come to an end and thanked his lawyers, Kok Keng and Edina.
