In times of rapid AI development, it’s better to ride the wave than to be left behind

AI – has mankind finally outsmarted itself by creating something that irreversibly threatens livelihoods? With regulatory frameworks, advisory guidelines and even temporary bans dished out at speeds to match the unprecedented rate generative AI garnered users, AI’s potential in destabilising economies has proven to be very frightening and very real.

Rajesh Sreenivasan, Head of Rajah & Tann Singapore’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications Practice, co-authors an article titled “In times of rapid AI development, it’s better to ride the wave than to be left behind” where he looks at the need for a careful and safe embrace of this revolutionary technology.

He advises curious players to “take a critical eye towards the potential, limits and risks of AI” and “be receptive towards how AI might change the way tasks are carried out”. Without being naïve about the technology’s probable pitfalls, lawmakers, industry representatives and the public can collectively contribute to the ethical and responsible development and deployment of AI, to have it favour innovation and growth.
